What's Moving Aerospace and Defense Hiring Right Now

Here's what I'm seeing shape the job market this quarter. If you build, fly, fix, or test hardware, read this.

  • Commercial aviation is scrambling for MRO talent. Airlines are flying older fleets longer, so demand for A&P mechanics, avionics techs, and structures specialists keeps climbing. If you can turn a wrench on a narrowbody, you have options. Pay is going up because the labor shortage is real.
  • Defense programs are hiring past the paperwork. Munitions, shipbuilding, and missile defense are all ramping. Companies need production engineers and machinists who can hit rate, not just prototype. Bring a security clearance and you skip half the wait.
  • Space is moving from launch to operations. The launch cadence is up, but the bigger growth is in satellite manufacturing and ground systems. Firms want people who understand thermal, power, and integration work, not just rocket engines.
  • Propulsion engineers are in a bidding war. Hybrid, electric, and next-gen turbine work is pulling talent from every direction. If you know combustion, cooling, or high-temp materials, recruiters are already looking for you.
  • Unmanned systems keep expanding fast. Drones for defense and cargo need autonomy engineers, test pilots, and technicians who can handle software and hardware together. This is where a lot of new roles are opening.

The short version: hands-on skills and clearances win right now. If you have both, this is a good time to move.
