Where the Jobs Are in Aerospace and Defense Right Now

Here is what we see moving the market this quarter. Short and direct.

  • Commercial aviation is hungry again. Airlines are flying more, and backlogs at the big manufacturers stretch for years. That means steady demand for assembly technicians, quality inspectors, and structures engineers. If you build or certify airframes, you have options.
  • Defense budgets are funding real programs, not just studies. Missiles, radar, and electronic warfare are pulling hard. Companies want engineers who can get through security clearances, so a current clearance makes you stand out fast. Expect long hiring timelines but solid pay.
  • Space has gone from hype to production. Launch cadence is up, and satellite builders are scaling factories. They need people who know how to make things in volume, not just one-off prototypes. Manufacturing engineers and test technicians are in short supply.
  • MRO cannot find enough hands. Every aircraft that flies needs maintenance, and the technician shortage is getting worse as older workers retire. Licensed A&P mechanics can name their location and often their shift.
  • Unmanned systems keep growing across both commercial and defense. Drones, counter-drone gear, and autonomy software are hiring in software, controls, and flight test. This is where younger engineers are breaking in fast.

Our advice: pick the thread that matches your skills and move. The demand is real, and the companies are paying to close gaps.
