What Is Actually Moving Aerospace and Defense Hiring
- Commercial aviation is still digging out of a backlog. Airlines want more planes, and builders cannot deliver fast enough. That means steady demand for assembly technicians, quality inspectors, and structures engineers. If you can read a drawing and work to spec, you will find a seat.
- Defense spending is funding real programs, not just studies. Hypersonics, missile production, and shipboard systems are all ramping. Companies need people with clearances who can move from prototype to volume. Security clearances remain the fastest way to stand out and get paid more.
- Space has shifted from launch to operations. Rockets still hire, but the bigger growth is in satellites, ground systems, and constellation support. Operators who can run missions and troubleshoot in real time are in short supply.
- MRO cannot find enough hands. Aging fleets and crowded skies keep maintenance shops full. A&P mechanics, avionics techs, and engine specialists are getting signing bonuses and relocation help. This is the most reliable job in the whole sector right now.
- Unmanned systems are past the hype stage. Drones and autonomous aircraft are in production for both military and commercial work. Demand is strong for software, propulsion, and test engineers who can ship hardware that flies.
The short version: if you build, maintain, fly, or clear, the work is there. Chase the programs with real money behind them and keep your certifications current.
