MIL-STD-810

MIL-STD-810

MIL-STD-810 is the DoD test methods standard for environmental conditioning of military equipment, currently revision H. It defines test methods for shock, vibration, temperature, salt fog, humidity, sand and dust, and another 25 environments. It is a methods reference, not a pass-fail spec. A typical avionics box goes through 14 to 22 different 810 tests over 3 to 6 months, costing $300K to $2M. Test Engineers who can author a defensible tailored test plan and run it through to a Qualification Test Report are among the most poached profiles in defense electronics. Roles where this matters: Test Engineering, Systems Engineering, Quality.
